September 12, 2022 — On August 20th, in Orlando, FL, GB and GGB employees participated in the annual GKTW Service event and Gala benefiting Give Kids the World (GKTW) as part of the Workers' Compensation Institute (WCI) conference. Give Kids the World Village is an 84-acre, nonprofit resort in Central Florida that provides weeklong, cost-free vacations to children with critical illnesses and their families. The Village and its community partners provide children and their families' accommodations in fully-furnished villas, transportation, tickets to theme parks, meals, daily entertainment and much more.
This is the thirteenth year of the partnership between WCI and GKTW and GB's ninth year participating. This year the event drew in over 500 volunteers, representing 95 companies. GB served on Villa Beautification teams, which involved painting and cleaning the villas where families reside, created invitation packages and craft decorations, and worked in the restaurant serving food to the families.
Kristy Sands, Vice President, Communication, has been serving on the Spirit to Serve committee for 5 years, and this was the best year yet. She says, "I'm honored to be a part of this effort with our industry colleagues across all functions of the insurance community. The money we raise goes straight to the Village to continue their work with critically ill children and their families. I couldn't be prouder of GB's contributions of time and sponsorship."
Following the volunteering event, a group gathered in the evening at the Orlando World Marriot to attend a Gala, which also included dinner and a silent auction. The Gala was attended by more than 600 people and raised over $150,000.
